Inflation causes economic collapse – ÖVP practices voodoo politics and prepares blue and black
Vienna (OTS/SK) – “Once again, economic data demonstrates the government’s failure in economic policy and in the fight against inflation. The current WIFO economic climate index shows that inflation has been and continues to be devastating for the Austrian economy. Austria needs a new start for justice,” says SPÖ economics spokesman Christoph Matznetter in view of the latest WIFO economic data. 2023 shows a real GDP decline of 0.7 percent. ****
Because people could no longer afford anything due to high inflation and had to save, the Austrian economy suffered a decline in consumption last year. Construction companies in particular are suffering from declining demand, and industrial companies are suffering from extremely high energy costs. “It is due to the federal government’s inaction if our companies are no longer internationally competitive. We have been warning about this since the start of inflation. The damage that the federal government has caused is great and lasting, to the detriment of the Austrian economy,” attests the SPÖ MP.
Chancellor Nehammer’s so-called Austria plan also gives little hope in this regard, said Matznetter. “Nehammer’s plan is solely to prepare a government with the FPÖ. We have to warn again and again that the blue-black social cuts will cost Austrians even more. Apart from that, the work from the ÖVP forge contains pure voodoo economics. There are no measures to combat inflation and no serious calculations. Every day that the ÖVP is no longer in government is a good day for all of Austria,” concluded the SPÖ economics spokesman, referring to the SPÖ’s current request for new elections. (Final) sd/ls
