This Sunday, June 9, the Second Rubik’s Tournament will take place, where the invitation is open to all lovers of putting together this most famous “puzzle” of all time.

The appointment is at 8:00 a.m. in the BBVA Hall of Plaza Almanara in Torreón and the maximum quota will be 50 participants. The only category that will be available is the 3x3x3 cube with a maximum assembly time of 2 minutes.

The organization is in charge of the teacher Eybette Mercado in conjunction with the San Roberto de Gómez Palacio School, with the purpose of encouraging those people who have a hobby of putting together this cube that has millions of combinations and that also helps the minors above all, to awaken their mental dexterity.

“The mechanics are that each participant will be given three opportunities to solve the cube, the best of these three times is the one that will remain for the classification and the best 16 will advance to the eliminatory where we will do direct elimination rounds, one against one until we have a winner. Like soccer games,” Mercado explained.

The prizes that will be had in this second edition will be: For first place a Gan Mosaic of 36 cubes, in which to paint things with pixels using Rubik’s cubes; the second is a giant 18x18x18 cm rubik’s cube; and the third place is a Gan cube special edition smart cube.

“It is something that is not done very often here in La Laguna, the truth is that the cube is rarer than there are events because there are fewer kids who know how to solve them. The approximate duration is 3 hours, including the award ceremony,” explained the organizer.

Costs and how to register

The registration cost is 250 pesos and interested parties must call 8718-88-96-26 to know the dynamics.

“I think that many kids get lost only in digital devices, in tablets, phones, but I think that the Rubik’s cube is a great tool for them to practice their mental skills, so that they can have other types of challenges, that are not being in devices, or it is also the beautiful part of mathematics, especially because of the methods to solve it, they are methods that have emerged from mathematical theory. In addition, it is a very entertaining game for them that stimulates them a lot and helps them sharpen their minds,” commented Eybette Mercado, who added that the intention is to create a “cubera” community in La Laguna.

“Create a Cubera community in La Laguna because then there are also many children who know how to solve it but don’t know anyone else, who also like cubes, I think it would be an opportunity to meet other cuberos as well. We do not have a community as such here in La Laguna, it would be good to start promoting it through these types of events.”
