PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained, as the locomotive of energy transition, PLN fully supports the needs of the business and industrial sectors for green electricity supply through Green Energy as a Service (GEAS) with its superior product REC. This step is in line with the Government’s target to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060.
“PLN is fully committed to supporting the competitiveness of the national industry by encouraging the use of clean energy. We present a 100 percent green electricity service option supplied by our renewable energy (EBT)-based power plants through REC,” said Darmawan.

Darmawan sees that more and more industrial sector customers are now utilizing REC to obtain green electricity supplies from PLN. It was recorded that throughout 2023, PLN REC has been used by 3,378 customers with a capacity of 3.5 TWh. The high absorption of REC in the first semester of 2024 also makes Darmawan optimistic that the trend of REC absorption will continue to increase until the end of 2024.
“In line with the high interest of the business and industrial sectors to support decarbonization in Indonesia, we see that PLN’s green energy needs will be even greater in the future. In this case, we have also succeeded in adding two power plants as REC sources. So that currently we have 8 REC power plants with a production capacity of up to 4.7 million RECs or 4.7 TWh per year,” explained Darmawan.
The two additional REC source power plants added by PLN this year are the Ulumbu Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) in East Nusa Tenggara and the Orya Genyem Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) in Papua.
The two renewable energy-based power plants above will join 6 other power plants that have been supplying REC PLN green electricity, namely Ulubelu PLTP, Cirata PLTA, Kamojang PLTP, Lambur PLTM, Bakaru PLTA, and Lahendong PLTP.
