In Almaty, work has begun on the overhaul of elevated pedestrian crossings, which have not been updated for more than ten years, Liter.kz reports with reference to the press service of the city akimat.
The crossings located on Saina Street and Raiymbek Avenue have long been in need of replacing non-functioning lifting mechanisms and elevators.
“The city akimat plans to install new frost-resistant vertical lifts that will be able to operate effectively in the winter months. It also provides for the replacement of lighting poles and lamps, drainage pipes and the introduction of architectural lighting for transitions. Additionally, it is planned to increase the number of video surveillance cameras to improve public safety, the data from which will be transferred to the Police Operational Control Center,” the akimat said in a statement on June 18.
The city akim also instructed to provide access to elevators for certain categories of citizens using the Onay transport card. In addition, on his instructions, a standard project is being developed that will establish uniform requirements for the repair of such crossings. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of this summer.
