On December 19, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said leader Kim Jong-un expressed great satisfaction with the test results of the Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile.
“This missile launch is an opportunity to clearly demonstrate the actions we are ready to take and the choices we will make if Washington makes a wrong decision against us,” KCNA said. .
KCNA also emphasized that Kim Jong-un expressed his desire to accelerate the strengthening of the country’s nuclear power to be able to counter all external threats, especially from the United States.
On the same day, KCNA reported that North Korea’s tests were carried out in response to hostile actions by the US. The Hwasong-18 missile is said to be capable of flying 1,002 km with a maximum altitude of 6,518 km.
The launch of a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan was known on December 18. The Japanese government convened an emergency meeting of officials from relevant ministries and branches at the Prime Minister’s Office to collect information, including possible damage caused by the missile.
This missile then fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
North Korea’s previous missile launch took place the day before.
Accordingly, North Korea launched a short-range missile from a launch pad in the vicinity of Pyongyang at around 10:38 p.m. The bullet flew about 570 km, then fell into the sea.
