Featherweight’s High Price for Corrido Performances Revealed by Julio Preciado

By Mediotiempo Editorial, Mexico City | June 15, 2023

Featherweight, one of Mexico’s current popular artists, has gained recognition through collaborations with renowned musicians and numerous performances. However, convincing the artist, who hails from Zapopan, is no easy task, as Julio Preciado discloses the exorbitant fee demanded by the 24-year-old for his singing engagements.

In an interview with Gustavo Adolfo Infante on the program “De Primera Mano,” Julio Preciado, a former singer of the Banda El Recodo, emphasizes that performing corridos lying down is a low-cost production. Nevertheless, Featherweight charges a whopping million pesos per presentation.

Preciado also belittles the performances of artists who execute corridos lying down, deeming them as failures. “It’s even cheap because they have a trombone, a tuba, and two harmonicas. What a fiasco, it’s even cheap to do it (the lying corridos). We have up to 30 musicians on stage. With just five performers, one can amass millions of pesos. Featherweight, as far as I know, demands 15 million pesos,” he remarks.

Preciado’s Stance

Meanwhile, Preciado acknowledges the success of artists in the genre of corridos lying down but urges that it should not be associated with “true Mexican regional” music.

“I congratulate them; I have nothing against them nor am I at odds with them. However, it is important not to blur the lines between different genres. Let them continue to succeed and showcase Mexican talent, but let’s not undermine the authenticity of Mexican regional music or belittle established artists’ careers,” he expresses.
