The radical Palestinian movement Hamas has proposed a four-and-a-half-month ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, during which all hostages will be released, Israel will withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip, and an agreement will be reached to end the war. This was reported by the Reuters agency.
This is Hamas’ response to a proposal agreed upon last week during negotiations between Qatar, Egypt, the United States and Israel. Earlier, the mass media reported that the ceasefire proposal agreed in Paris implies a 6-week ceasefire, during which the Israeli hostages will be exchanged step by step with the Palestinian prisoners in Israel.
The Israeli Channel 13 media, citing high-ranking officials, reported that some of the demands presented by Hamas are not acceptable to Israel. Israel has previously said that it will not withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip until it destroys Hamas.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is in Israel, where he is discussing a ceasefire with Hamas with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
A Reuters source said that Hamas has sought assurances from Qatar, Egypt and other friendly states that the ceasefire will be maintained and will not end when the hostages are released.
The Israel Defense Forces announced that 31 of the 136 hostages remaining in Gaza were killed. During the 7-day ceasefire between the parties in November, Israel returned 110 hostages, releasing 240 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for them.
After the invasion of Hamas militants on October 7, 1200 people were killed in Israel and about 250 people were captured. Israel has launched military operations in the Gaza Strip, where the number of victims, according to the Palestinian authorities, has reached 27,708.
