On January 7, 2024, despite all the capricious weather, the Feuerkogel experienced a world premiere: the Slope Whirl Kids Challenge.
Despite the challenges that the weather presented – the ascent was only possible around 11:00 a.m. – the event stood on solid ground thanks to the tireless efforts of everyone involved. A good 20 centimeters of fresh snow, continuous snowfall and fog couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm. The starting signal was given at 12:00 p.m., an hour and a half later than planned.
28 “weatherproof” young racers born between 2014 and 2020 took up the challenge. They demonstrated their talent and courage on the challenging ski cross course. More than the race itself, it was the fun and enjoyment of skiing that was the main focus. With this event, the racing season for the youngest children has now officially opened. The Ebensee ski club hopes that the Pistewhirl Kids Challenge will establish itself as an integral part of the Feuerkogel race calendar, similar to the traditional Benjamin race at the end of the season.
The Ebensee ski team is already looking forward to next year – with hopefully friendlier weather and just as enthusiastic budding ski stars.
