“Most forms of autism are a common effect inherited from both the mother and the father. However, there are certain forms in which genes from one parent play a major role. One such form is fragile X syndrome, or Martin-Bell, which is often accompanied by autism. It is more common in boys and is usually transmitted to them from the mother, because the son receives the X chromosome from the mother and the Y chromosome from the father,” Gazeta.Ru quoted him as saying.

According to the neurologist, the effect of genetic factors is not 100%. Therefore, environmental influences such as premature birth, taking certain medications or infections during pregnancy should be taken into account.
