Puerto Rican Couple Dies in Tragic Traffic Accident While Visiting Military Son
A Puerto Rican family’s vacation turned into a nightmare when a tragic traffic accident claimed the lives of a husband and wife, and left their daughter injured. Delfin Nieves Rodríguez and Lidia Maribel Alicea Carmona were en route to visit their military son and granddaughters in North Carolina when their vehicle was hit by another car that had failed to stop at a mandatory checkpoint.
A Devastating Loss
Alicea Carmona was killed instantly, and despite attempts at resuscitation, her husband died after being airlifted to a nearby hospital. The couple’s daughter is still receiving medical care, with her condition listed as critical but stable.
Remembering a Life of Service
Nieves Rodríguez was a retired employee of the Electric Power Authority (AEE), and was also a respected pastor of the “Palabras de fe” church in Naranjito, which he co-led with his brother. The couple’s untimely demise has left their community, as well as their family and friends, in a state of shock and grief.
