“A historic day has arrived,” the Frente Amplio registered “as a unitary party”

“The century”. Santiago. 9/4/2024. In a few weeks the new Frente Amplio (PFA) party would be legally registered, with which the Democratic Revolution (RD) and Social Convergencia (CS) parties will be dissolved, giving way to the birth of another political community on the national stage.

The president of Convergencia Social, Diego Ibañez, said that “after many years, the historic day arrived in which we registered the Frente Amplio as a unitary party, as a collective party after almost a decade of participation in social movements.”

The leaders of the Frente Amplio carried out the registration process for the new organization this Monday at the Electoral Service (Servel).

The president of the Democratic Revolution, Diego Vela, pointed out that “we are convinced that we need unity and a clear project for the country and to improve the quality of life of Chilean men and women.”

Ibáñez, meanwhile, stated that “this small step that we are taking as Frente Amplio can become a big step for the dreams of social justice in Chile.”

For Vela, the PFA will have “a vocation to recover public space, to understand that money cannot be a determining factor in access to health, education and, above all, ensuring that all people have security but also the freedom to lead a full life, without violence, where women can walk freely down the street, where there are no sacrifice zones as there are currently in the country. We are convinced that the step we are taking forward is a step that will transcend the current Government, that is going to be projected in the long term.”
